2010
Our annual Memorial Day Weekend trip in 2010 was fabulous. Our bike convoy consisted of 10 bikes and a truck camper combination. We were blessed with wonderful weather the entire time. Before arriving at our resort, we stopped by Black Jacks Saloon and Steak House in Trinidad for a wonderful steak lunch. While in Trinidad we stocked up on necessities and when we arrived at the resort, wasted no time in consuming them. On both evenings after we bedded down the bikes, we gathered around a campfire and swapped lies well into the night. On many occasions during the trip we paused, gave thanks, and honored our fallen military servicemen and women who gave up their tomorrows, so we could have our todays.
2009
On 05/23/09 at 10:00 AM multiple members of the Blue
Knights CO VI along with two guest riders met at the Tomahawk Truck stop to
begin our 600 mile journey to Monument Lake Resort and Red River, New
Mexico. One of the guest riders was a fellow Blue Knight from Germany
XII. We had ten bikes for the first leg of the ride to Monument Lake
Resort. The weather was calm with rain all around us. We were
all waiting for it to rain on us and we all counted our lucky stars when we
arrived at the resort dry.
On 05/24/09 at about 9:00 AM now with 11 bikes in our group we began our
journey over Cuchara Pass and La Veta Pass to Red River, NM. Again we
were all watching the sky to see if we would get wet. When we were
about fifteen miles out of Red River the sky opened up and it began to rain.
As we pulled into Red River the rain was still falling, but stopped about an
hour later (right after lunch...nice). We all broke off into small
groups to wander through the rally. We gathered to leave at 4:00 PM
and as we pulled out of Red River the sky again filled with clouds. We
watched the sky as we made the 140 mile journey back to the resort. We
had to stop in Trinidad, CO for gas (and more beverages for the resort) and
the rain began. The rain continued to fall on us for the next thirty
miles. About ten miles before the resort the sky cleared and it was another
cool but beautiful evening at the lake.
On 05/25/09 at about 11:00 AM we began our return journey to Colorado
Springs. We arrived at the Tomahawk truck stop at about 2:30 PM. If
anybody has never ridden through this portion of Colorado, I would recommend
doing so. Cuchara Pass in my opinion is one of the most beautiful
passes in Colorado.
